Rituals of Illumination

28 – 26 July 2025

In Rituals of Illumination, Sydney based artist Brock Q. Piper presents a series of intricate and layered oil paintings depicting interior scenes. These scenes are diffused and intersected by atmospheric plays of light, figures in dialogue, and the seemingly out of place presence of wild animals, which form the central motif in each composition.

About the artist

Brock Q. Piper's practice reflects a sustained engagement with travel, mythology, and narrative traditions. Combining anthropological observation with layered oil glazing techniques, Piper constructs psychologically charged interiors that merge memory, symbolism and the ambiguity of personal and cultural mythologies. His work has been exhibited in Australia and the United States, and he was awarded the 2021 George Hicks Victorian Artist Society Contemporary Art Award.
